The whole known universe may have gone into overdrive on the news that Ben Affleck is the new caped crusader in Zack Synder’s SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL (2013) sequel (as yet unnamed), but Matt Damon has some thoughts on it himself; it’ll be great.
“It will be terrific,’ Damon told The Times of India. And in answer to the internet storm badmouthing his buddy, he went on to say playing Batman (surprisingly) isn’t the same as playing one of Shakespeare’s tragic leads:
“I just think it’s kind of funny. You know he’s not playing King Lear. He’s Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people.”
Top marks for observation there. Damon went on to say how he wasn’t bothered about being sidelined in THE BOURNE LEGACY by new character Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner).
“It didn’t have anything to do with the movie I made,’” he says. “It makes sense for a studio to keep those franchises as alive as they can, it makes business sense for them. I don’t begrudge anybody for that. I am a huge fan of Jeremy. I don’t equate my Bourne movie with his. He didn’t play the part of Jason Bourne. It’s a totally different thing.”
You can see more of Damon, along with Jodie Foster, in ELYSIUM, a dystopian thriller directed by Neil Blomkamp which is out in cinemas now.
